frequently asked questions
We can discuss this at the hearing aid consultation. We try our best to meet our patient’s needs.
The type of hearing aid will depend on the results of your hearing test! Just like with vision and glasses, we will personally recommend what will work best medically for your hearing prescription.
There are several styles of hearing aids, including:
- Behind-the-ear (BTE) – Sits behind the ear and connects to an earmold or dome
- Receiver-in-canal (RIC) – Small and discreet, with a thin wire to the ear
- In-the-ear (ITE) – Custom-molded to fit inside the ear
- Completely-in-canal (CIC) – Nearly invisible, fitting deep inside the ear
Your audiologist will recommend the best style based on your hearing loss, lifestyle, and preferences.
On average, it takes about 4 weeks for the brain to adjust to hearing in the normal range. However, everyone is different and it all depends on your prescription, experience with hearing aids and how often you wear them. The more consistent you are, the faster the brain will get used to it.
If hearing loss is playing a role in your tinnitus, hearing aids can most definitely help.
Hearing aids do not cure hearing loss, but they significantly improve your ability to hear and communicate. Most patients adapt quickly and find them life-changing.
Hearing aids typically last 5-7 years, depending on maintenance and wear. Regular cleaning and professional servicing can extend their lifespan.
